I&#039;m not 100% positive on the updates, but I&#039;m about 90% sure that the bugfixes and releases are not only free, but they are downloaded and installed by the software itself. 

Nope, I didn&#039;t play with MultiMarkDown - I&#039;ll give that a shot and see what it&#039;s like, I hadn&#039;t even heard of it yet.

Wordpress does indeed have a markup version - it&#039;s one of the reasons I like wordpress so much, the ability to swap over to the markup and tweak so things do exactly what I want. I find pure wysiwyg editors to be frustrating beyond belief.</description>
