Patches of Sunlight

by     2 Comments    Posted under: Adventures in Real Life

I sat, today, on a wicker couch bathed in a large patch of sunlight, reading The Magicians and Mrs. Quent.

It was…lovely.

The warmth and the sun and enveloping myself in such a marvelous story – I cannot explain the feeling of peace. I’ve been so very busy lately, rushing to and fro to get things done (both at work and in my personal endeavors), but after just ten minutes sitting in a patch of sunlight, my soul feels like a pool of still water.

This is one of the reasons I made a new year’s resolution to read two books a month – and why the Saucy Wenches has reading assignments. Sometimes I can pile too much on my shoulders and I allow the world to become a little frantic.

Reading reminds me that it’s good to slow things down.

And now I feel as though I have a better understanding of cats – my own delightfully naughty Ninja spends his days moving from sunlight patch to sunlight patch in the apartment.

I may not be able to join him always, but perhaps, from time to time, I may curl up on the carpet with him and feel him purr against my collarbone.
