Breakfast

Every morning, Mr. Moore gets up at an ungodly hour.

Why does he do this?

Is it because he has to be up at that hour? No.

Is it because he’s a morning person? No.

Is it because he’s secretly a spy and the wee hours of the morning are the only time that his top secret communicator device works?

…I don’t think so, no.

So why?

He does it because I get up early. If he gets up early as well and makes me breakfast while I’m getting ready for work, then we get to snuggle for a whole ten minutes longer.

D’awwww.

So! Every morning, Mr. Moore gets up ridiculously early and makes me breakfast and gives me a squidge and a kiss before I go to work.

This morning, he even mustered the time to take photos of the breakfast he normally makes for us so I could photoblog the process.

D’awwww.

To my knowledge, he doesn’t even know about Phlunches, so I don’t think it’s the need to compete in the arena of thoughtful food-making. He’s just that sweet.

The Making of a Breakfast For Tami

Step 1: Tiny pan with a dollop of olive oil over medium/high heat.

Step 2: Two slices of turkey ham, sizzle-fying in the tiny pan.

Step 3: Add some fresh onion and green pepper. Note that we keep diced onion and peppers in our fridge, pre-cut. We use them a lot in salads and breakfasts and the like, so we’ve just started cutting a boat-load of them up on the weekend and storing them in the fridge for when we need a handful of onion. Also, purple onion is the best onion ever. If it wanted to, it could totally beat up the other onions and steal their lunch money. But it never would, because it’s too nice.

Step 4: Two eggs in a little bowl with some salt and pepper, scrambled. You can add things like cornstarch or milk to scrambled eggs if you like, but the REAL secret ingredient to really great scrambled eggs is air. That’s right. Air. The more furious the scrambling before they get fried, the fluffier they’ll be. <3

Step 5: Add the scrambled eggs to the ham and veggie mix that’s been softening and sizzling while you scrambled. If you like really soft veggies, you’ll want to make sure the onion and green pepper are completely done before you add the egg. I like my veggies to still have some fight in them when I eat them, so the veggies pictured aren’t completely cooked yet.

Step 6: Push the eggs around till they’ve made right mess of things but aren’t completely cooked. It’s okay if the ham gets some eggishness on it, but it’s easier to handle later if the ham is mostly apart from the egg mixture.

Step 7: Lid the pan. This makes the top of the egg mixture cook too, but oddly enough it also makes the eggs all puffy and deliciously fluffy.

Step 8: Ta-da! Beautifully browned and fluffy scramblet mixture.

Step 9: Some sharp cheddar on the ham melts in and gives it a delicious cheesy flavor.

Step 10: Cut the egg mixture in half. One slice of ham and half the egg mixture goes on half a toasted english muffin, spread with mayo, butter, or wasabi. Serves two.

Endless Combinations

Some folks find it boring to have the same thing for breakfast every day. I am not one of those people. This is awesome, and I’m delighted every time I eat it. We do mix up the veggies, meat, and spices depending on what we have in the fridge. Sometimes the meat is cut up sausages, sometimes it’s sausage crumbles, sometimes it’s chicken. Sometimes we have mushrooms and swiss cheese. Sometimes we spice it with basil and add tomatoes. Salsa and chili con carne spice are also delicious (especially if topped with a bit of sour cream. Yum!

Combinations are nearly endless, and endlessly delicious.

A Little Gloating

My husband gets up every morning to make me a totally awesome breakfast. Hee!

You can’t wear your decoder ring in the bubble bath, anyway. =P

  • I was going to try and think of something funny and witty to say but “You can’t wear your decoder ring int he bubble bath, anyway.” just takes the cake. I can’t top that. No point in trying.

The Hubby and I each have our specialities. He won’t eat anyone else’s macaroni & cheese, even refuses to make it for himself. Mine is the world’s best in his opinion. He makes the world’s best grilled ham and cheese. I have been known to make one for myself but I am never happy about it and am always disappointed. His grilled chicken is also the best. He calls it Musky Chicken (and for the life of me I can’t get him to change the name) and it’s incredibly awesome. The magic is a combination of his marinade and his cooking skills. Chicken is actually difficult to cook perfectly and he manages it everytime! Cooked all the way through but never tough or chewey (I think I spelled that word wrong, but for the life of me I can’t make it look right).

Maybe it’s time to photoblog some of my favorite recipes…

Mmm, those sound delicious! (especially the mac n cheese. I haven’t had good mac n cheese in AGES)

I vote photoblogging! I love recipe posts, and it sounds like y’all have some great recipes to share!

  • @Lauren: Chewy :)

@Tami: You are one lucky lady. I suggest you keep him, even after the warranty period. ;)

And the decoder ring in the bubble bath line wins the day!

I am indeed very lucky. I’ve got him branded, he’s aaaaallll mine. <3

  • @The Different Steve
Thank-you! It’s been bugging me all afternoon and I haven’t had time to look it up!

    @Tami
Sadly, my mac & cheese is orange and from a box. I’ve always been a bit baffled by it, but he doesn’t like homemade mac & cheese at all. Only the Kraft stuff and only when I make it (I don’t cook the pasta as long as the instructions say and I use about half the milk & butter called for). I quit trying to figure him out a long time ago :-)

  • and now I’m hungry. Thank goodness it’s almost going-home time!

  • @Lauren
Actually, that makes perfect sense. I don’t know what he did, but my brother made MAGIC Mac & Cheese.

    @Michael C with a beret
Hee. I’d share if you were nearby!

  • I’ll attempt to give that another try, though my luck with cooking has resulted in busted formica, burnt hands, and black smoke that lingers for days in the kitchen. >.<

  • @Byrd
That…sounds like a formidable and somewhat alarming cooking experience. May I recommend starting with an easy, possibly for-kids cookbook? =]
.-= Tami´s last blog ..Photoblog: A Box From Germany =-.

  • Haha, it went pretty good so far. I made cheesy eggs with cinnamon-sugar toast. The eggs were slightly brown (oops >.<), but no eggshells this time.

  • @Byrd
    Yay progress!
